KompoZer 20% Off Sale

KompoZer 0.7.10 downloads continue at a fast pace. The open source, WYSIWYG HTML editor enables even novice web authors to express their creativity on the web. The current rate of “sales” reflects new users as well as folks upgrading from earlier versions of KompoZer and Nvu. At 20% off KompoZer is a great deal.

20% Off?

An earlier post I discussed the notion that it is possible to sell otherwise free, open source software. Let me point out that KompoZer is still a free download and I suggest you get your copy today.

So what am I talking about when I say “20% Off?” I don’t know about your neighborhood but in the U S of A nothing gets attention like a four-letter word. Our favorite happens to be S A L E. If the concept of a SALE got you to take a look at KompoZer then the word worked.

Now that I have your attention, the real point is KompoZer is about 20% off from where it will be one of these days. Even so there is no reason to wait for 1.0 because as it is, KompoZer is still your best option for WYSIWYG web authoring.

KompoZer's developer, Kazé, realized Nvu code wasn’t ready to be released as version 1.0 even though it was. He took that code, corrected the most obvious bugs, and then began to follow a development plan to make KompoZer the editor of choice for Windows, Mac and Linux owners.

If we are looking forward to KompoZer 1.0 and are comin’ up on 0.8 then we must be 20% off by my reckoning. Actually, KompoZer will probably be more than we expect. Release 0.7.10 turned out to be more than I expected and probably more than Kazé had in mind when he started the project. No wonder folks are downloading KompoZer more than ever.

Sales for the Month

I predicted that KompoZer downloads would be 120,000 this month based on the 80,000 picked up last month. I thought that was possible because downloads really increased after the release of 0.7.10. The word is spreading that getting the new version is a clever thing to do.
So be one of the 120,000 (est) who will download KompoZer in October and start creating.
Half way through the month of October 54,000 copies were taken, for free. I was close in estimating 120,000 for the month. At that rate my estimate is off by 12,000 copies but I’m hoping for a big finish. Downloads of KompoZer 0.7.10 could easily top 100,000 copies. Today's count is at 70,000 and there are 10 days left in the month.

Maybe I focus on the number of downloads because I'm not smart enough to help with the code. Downloads are important because they validate interest in KompoZer and web authoring in general. The number, and increasing rate of downloads, ought to suggest to you that it it time to get a copy and see what the buzz is about.

The number ought to say to Kazé that folks really appreciate his work. In addition to a general "thanks" I plan to encourage donations with the release of 0.8. Like most things I need to figure out how to make donations to the project to advise you. If you are smarter than me go to the KompoZer home page and click the "donate" link. You will need PayPal and a SourceForge registration to complete the deed. That much I have figured out.

Just think: If 10% of the folks who got a free copy of KompoZer this month sent $5...
