March: In like a Lion

The weather saying for the month of March is, “In like a lion out like a lamb.” Clearly that saying applies to this blog for the month. Great expectations and plans gave way to little progress here. KompoZer popularity continues to soar, as do visitors to the Wysi Free Authoring blog. Maybe next month will be better for content added.

Free KompoZer Downloads

KompoZer downloads are at 117,000 and counting as of this writing. Downloads from SourceForge are the only downloads counted and March brought a new high. The popularity of KompoZer free, open source software has continued even though there have been no recent releases.

KompoZer is a WYSIWYG HTML editor designed for web authors with no experience or technical background. This blog is not affiliated with the project but we believe it is the best free option for creating web pages. That belief is validated by KompoZer’s built in CSS editor. Where the idea is we shouldn’t have to learn code to create a web page, the CSS capability of 0.7.10 was a real blessing.

In like a lion…

So that is the near term plan. Three subjects: Publishing with KompoZer, Using KompoZer to See HTML and CSS source code, and Building Simple Pages with KompoZer. Let’s hope real life will allow all that during March.

It was a great plan but unfortunately became overtaken by events, real life and otherwise. I thought maybe real life would get in the way and clearly it did. The thing about being in a service business is that you must dance to the tune that is played and the customers pick the music. I had the feeling that would happen as you can see in the last sentence of the quote.

I did make some progress on the plan and did salvage a laptop computer to replace my vintage 1998 machine. My old one still works but lacks the communication equipment to work with high speed Internet when on business trips. The challenge came because daughter had been into that peer to peer music business and the machine was racked with adware, virus and all sorts of gunk. I managed to clear all that out in time for my last business trip. Unfortunately the hotel’s network was down. Some days you can’t win.

Out like a lamb.

So I end the month with nothing new to offer. I do offer my thanks to you for stopping by and hope your questions were answered or you were at least amused.

March was the highest month yet for traffic here. Most visitors come from Google looking for answers to KompoZer questions but the number of bookmarks is growing. It is also gratifying to have links from colleges and universities using KompoZer as a tool for learning web design. Good luck to you as finals approach.

Apologies for not delivering on my promise this month. The lack of progress does make planning for next month relatively simple.
