Happy KompoZer Year!

I'm glad to see the last of 2008. It was not a good year in so many ways that 2009 has to be an improvement regardless of what happens. My New Year's resolution is to do a better job in 2009.

The Free Authoring Blog

In terms of this blog 2008 was clearly not a good year as there was very little content added to make your life easier. Fortunately some of the topics from 2007 served readers well. Clearly the most popular content is anything dealing with tutorials and how to use KompoZer. I keep permanent links to the KompoZer User's Guide and a couple more sites I hope new web authors will find useful.

The Wysi Wiki

While there is no KompoZer tutorial per se on the Wysi Wiki I hope it provides useful information on a broad range of subjects. Take a look at the Tips and Links page and you will see information on everything from   to WWW. Some of the links are active and I hope to finish the others this year.

The Wysi Web Site

The third leg of the stool is the web site. The blog and Wiki are convenient because all I need to do is enter content. (That should be a hint for new web authors who just want to get their thoughts on the web.) Unfortunately I sometimes need the freedom of a blank sheet with formatting I can control and use the free hosting web site for that.

KompoZer Development Continues

I reported in August that development was continuing on KompoZer. Development continues but the long awaited release of 0.8 did not happen in 2008. What has happened is that KompoZer became more popular than ever and seems to be gaining a foothold at the university level. Over 1.9 million copies of KompoZer have been downloaded from SourceForge. The interesting number is that 1.3 million copies were downloaded in 2008 with 32% of that in the last quarter. This blog gained a number of links from "edu" sites and has picked up a lot of hits because of them. In view of all of this interest I guess I should get busy.

New Year Resolution

The whole point is that I believe in freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom of the Internet. I believe that everyone should have a web site if they want it and they needn't be technically enabled to have one.

I believe that with a little help anyone can create a web page with KompoZer. If the resulting page is not completely satisfying then KompoZer is an excellent learning tool to become technically enabled. I believe all this because I have been there and done that.

I'm a lot smarter this year than I was this time last year but I have retained my amateur standing. My resolution is to provide information that maybe, just maybe will make you web authoring a little bit easier.
